Gregory Ryan Miles Identified as Suspect in Broomfield Shooting Incident

Broomfield, CO – A tense and tragic shooting unfolded early Thursday morning at the Arista Flats apartment complex, leading to the death of a woman and the hospitalization of a suspect who is now under investigation. Authorities have identified the suspect as 34-year-old Gregory Ryan Miles (DOB 7/12/90).

Miles is currently in stable condition after suffering multiple gunshot wounds during a confrontation with law enforcement officers. He is under investigation for First Degree Murder, among other charges, in connection with the fatal incident that took place around 6:30 a.m.

Broomfield Police Department officers responded to the apartment complex following a 911 call reporting a disturbance. Upon arrival at the scene, officers heard a man, later identified as Miles, shouting from inside one of the units. As the situation escalated, Miles began firing shots, targeting officers, nearby apartments, and the parking lot of the complex, creating a dangerous environment for everyone in the area.

In response, law enforcement officers returned fire, striking Miles and bringing the immediate threat to an end. Miles was critically wounded in the exchange but survived and was transported to a local hospital, where he remains under close watch by authorities.

Unfortunately, the confrontation did not end without tragedy. Inside the apartment with Miles was a woman identified as Aisha Quest. She sustained a gunshot wound during the incident and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, Quest succumbed to her injuries, marking a heartbreaking end to the standoff.

Police have confirmed that multiple officers were involved in the shooting. Although several officers sustained minor injuries, they were treated and released from the hospital the same day. The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure following an officer-involved shooting, as the investigation continues.

Given the severity of the situation, Broomfield authorities issued a reverse emergency notification (LookOut Alert) to warn residents in the vicinity. The alert instructed nearby residents to shelter in place to avoid potential harm. As a precautionary measure, several apartment units were also evacuated to ensure the safety of those living in the complex.

The shooting has rattled the local community, which is still reeling from the events. Due to the extensive nature of the crime scene, roads and buildings around the area were closed off, and they may remain shut for several hours or even days as investigators from the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) of the 17th Judicial District comb through the scene for evidence. The thorough investigation is necessary to piece together exactly what led to the tragic events, and police are committed to preserving the integrity of the investigation.

The Broomfield Police Department has stated that no further information will be released at this time due to the complexity of the ongoing investigation. Miles faces a list of potential charges, including First Degree Murder, but until the investigation is complete, the full scope of his charges remains to be determined.

The police have asked local residents to stay vigilant and report any damage or suspicious items in or around the crime scene as they return to their homes. Residents are encouraged to call the Broomfield Police Department’s non-emergency line at 303-438-6400 to report any findings related to the incident.

Those displaced by the evacuation have been directed to the Broomfield Community Center at 280 Spader Way, where they can receive assistance and information. For many in the neighborhood, this incident has not only created a physical disruption but also emotional trauma, as residents now grapple with the tragic death of Aisha Quest and the violent outburst that brought chaos to their usually quiet community.

This shooting has deeply shaken Broomfield, a community unaccustomed to such violence. The city’s immediate response ensured that no further lives were lost, but the events of that morning serve as a stark reminder of how quickly life can be altered by violence. Local authorities have extended their support to the residents affected by this incident, providing counseling and resources to help the community heal.

As the investigation unfolds, more details will emerge regarding the motives behind this tragic event and the precise chain of actions that led to the deadly confrontation. The involvement of the CIRT ensures a transparent and thorough review of the officers’ actions during the incident, and their findings will likely shape the future legal proceedings against Miles.

The police department has reiterated its commitment to the safety of the community and is asking for patience and cooperation as they work through this challenging situation. Meanwhile, residents of Broomfield remain on edge, hoping for answers and seeking solace in the wake of the tragedy that took Aisha Quest’s life.
