On Tuesday morning, a devastating traffic accident claimed the life of a 16-year-old Willard resident in Greenfield Township, according to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Norwalk Post.
The victim, identified as Logan Lewis, was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident occurred around 7:15 a.m. on State Route 61 in Huron County.
Initial reports indicate that Lewis was driving a 2014 Dodge Avenger northbound on State Route 61 when the vehicle veered left of the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound 2012 Freightliner semi-truck and trailer. The semi-truck was operated by 45-year-old Benjamin D. McKillips from Berlin Heights.
McKillips sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and was initially transported to Willard Hospital. He was subsequently airlifted to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Toledo by Life Flight for further treatment.
Following the collision, the Dodge Avenger came to a stop off the east side of the highway, while the semi-truck ended up off the west side of the road. The semi-truck also caught fire after the impact, adding to the severity of the incident.
